La Liga builds up five-year deal for online, TV platforms in China

It has been a good year so far for Spanish football and now La Liga is expanding its global presence further with a five-year deal for TV and online platforms in China through Mediapro, PPTV and Suning.
laligachinaThe agreement, which takes effect next week, when La Liga's new season kicks off, will bring La Liga to Chinese TV audiences. PPTV will broadcast matches across its digital platforms, with La Liga's merchandise reaching fans directly via Suning's shops.
“The agreement is going to be key to reaching fans in China,” said Javier Tebas, chairman of La Liga. “Suning and PPTV will assure the presence of the Spanish League in Chinese households and the chance to win and lose with their favourite teams. Spanish football has taken a giant step forward.”
Jaime Roures, Mediapro's founding partner, added: “Spanish football is set to lay down firm roots in China. It's not just giving people the chance to watch Spanish football on TV but also an opportunity to be part of their day-to-day lives."
The deal is part of Spanish football's strategy for growth in Asia, which recently saw visits from Real Sociedad, Rayo Vallecano and Atlético de Madrid as part of the LFP World Challenge Tour. beIN Sports, also through Mediapro, recently announced broadcasting rights for Asia's major markets through to 2018.
