Amenabar's new film to open the San Sebastian Festival

Achieving worldwide recognition with his Golden Globe-nominated The Others, Spanish director Alejandro Amenábar is to premiere his latest film, Regression, during the opening of the San Sebastian film festival on 18 September.

The movie, which has also been included in the Official Selection of the festival, has an international cast including Ethan Hawke, Emma Watson, David Thewlis and David Dencik. In his sixth feature film, Alejandro Amenabar, who also wrote the screenplay, returns to the psychological thriller genre to which he has already contributed classic titles such as The Others, Abre los Ojos (remade by Tom Cruise into Vanilla Sky) and Tesis (Thesis).

The film, shot in Canada in English, is produced by Fernando Bovaira and Mediaset's Telecinco Cinema, MOD Entertainment, MOD Producciones, Himenóptero, First Generation Films, Telefónica Studios and Regression A.I.E. in association with FilmNation Entertainment with the participation of Telefilm Canada, Mediaset España and Movistar+.

Regression will open in Spanish cinemas on 2 October. It will open in key territories such as Germany, UK, France, Italy, China and Korea this autumn and then worldwide in the following months.

The nine-day San Sebastian Festival is now in its 63rd edition and sees participation from international, national and local audiovisual companies.
