Digital media adaptors are now playing a major role in the functioning of smart homes as they help to stream media content via the Internet direct to a TV or home entertainment system.

As a result, analysts forecast the global digital media adaptor market to grow at a CAGR of 5.47% over the period 2014-2019.

Many homes in developed nations such as the US and the UK are being revamped into smart homes, according to Research and Markets. The firm defines a smart home as a one where consumer electronic devices, media and entertainment gadgets, and other smart electronics are connected to the home network and can interact with each other.

In addition, the increased spending capacity of consumers in developing countries has increased the market for smart homes and this will propel the growth of the global digital media adaptor market.

According to the report, many new genres of online video content are now available in the market such as live streaming, comedy series, movies and sports, which are provided by online streaming service providers such as YouTube.

"The global digital media adaptor market is fragmented with the presence of a large number of small and large vendors," the report warned.
