TV Cultura expands international, Brazilian DTT distribution with Intelsat

Leading Brazilian broadcaster TV Cultura has tapped satellite operator Intelsat to support expansion of its DTT services within domestic and international markets.

TV Cultura is the main communication vehicle of Fundação Padre Anchieta and its programming reaches almost 120 million Brazilians, in 21 states of the country. Its bouquet includes documentaries, interviews, musicals, children's programmes, dramaturgy and journalism.

Under the new agreement with the satellite operator, TV Cultura will take C-band capacity on Intelsat 11 at 317° east to distribute content to its approximately 300 terrestrial towers for DTT services and also to pay-TV operators across the country. Intelsat also offers a premier Latin America cable distribution neighbourhood, carrying 178 channels, 31 of which are in high definition.

"Ensuring reliable, high quality and secure content distribution on a global basis is often a complex, exercise," said Gilvani Moletta, technical director, TV Cultura. "However, Intelsat's satellite network provides us with a seamless, cost-efficient solution that maintains the integrity and reliability of our programming. Most importantly, the strength of its video neighbourhood at Intelsat 11 will enable us to expand our customer base and increase our product offering outside of Brazil, allowing us to capture new audiences in Latin America, the Americas and Europe."

Intelsat currently provides a number of DTT solutions in Latin America, and claims to offer the premier pan-regional cable distribution neighbourhoods in Latin America, with three satellites carrying programming from leading providers in Latin America, the United States and Asia. This, it says, makes its craft an ideal platform for programmers that want to expand their content distribution. "TV Cultura is a wonderful addition to our premier Intelsat 11 video neighbourhood," added Carmen Gonzalez-Sanfeliu, the company's regional vice president, Latin America and Caribbean sales. "Intelsat 11 will also provide TV Cultura with unparalleled reception quality, reliability and reach, enabling them to expand their DTT service offerings."
