Indian movie channel Zee Cinema is to begin broadcasting World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in Hindi from 13 September, according to local reports.

WWE coverage is already provided in India on pay-TV channel Ten Sports, broadcasting mostly in English. According to TV ratings agency Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India, WWE has held a long running top spot as India's most watched televised sport, although the Sri Lanka versus India cricket Test on Sony Six recently pipped it to the sports ratings post in week 33.

Zee Cinema will air WWE from 7-9pm every day for the first two weeks of its introduction in order to grow a mass audience before running it weekly, according to a report by IndianTelevision.com.

This is not the first time an Indian film channel has given over airtime for sports coverage. Multi Screen Media (MSM) started the trend by introducing the Indian Premiere League (IPL) on its channel Sony Max and the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) was shown on Hindi movie channel Star Gold.
