A month before its official launch in Spain, Netflix has announced its first agreement with a telecoms operator in the country, namely Vodafone.
From the moment it launches, the subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) platform will be available on the TiVo-powered Vodafone TV. Through the deal, the telco intends to establish one of the cornerstones of its new TV-based project in Spain, following its acquisition of cable operator ONO, and aims to compete directly with Telefónica in the pay-TV arena.
Included in the Netflix catalogue available for Vodafone in Spain will be original series including Narcos, Marvel's Daredevil, Sense8, Bloodline, Grace and Frankie, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Marco Polo, as well as documentaries such as Virunga and Mission Blue.
In addition to Vodafone's interactive TiVo set-top box, subscribers can also access Netflix on mobile and connected devices through the regular Netflix app.
After several delays due to the market instability, Netflix announced in June the plan to launch in Spain during October, although the platform hasn't announced a specific date as yet.
