Thaicom appoints Panuwattanawong as new CEO

Asian satellite operator Thaicom has promoted Paiboon Panuwattanawong to the role of chief executive officer after he served as chief technical officer for the past six years.

Panuwattanawong, who has been employed by Thaicom for 23 years, will also become the company's authorised director when he assumes his new role on 1 October.

Current CEO, Suphajee Suthumpun, will advise and support the new CEO until the end of the year. According to local reports after leaving the post she has held for the past four years, she intends to advise start-ups and young generation leaders, as well as helping attain global recognition for Thai companies.

Panuwattanawong has a Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics) from Yale University, a Master's in Engineering (Electronics) from Carnegie Mellon University, and attended the Directors Certification Programme at Thai Institute of Directors Association in 2009.

The company he will head is majority owned by InTouch Group and currently operates the Thaicom 5, 6 and 7 broadcasting satellites and the iPSTAR broadband satellite.

Orbital Sciences Corporation is currently manufacturing Thaicom 8; capacity for which is reportedly 13% presold.

Thaicom is aiming for presales of 50% on its latest satellite before it launches to 78.5° East in the first half of 2016, according to The Nation.
