Media Networks and Fonelight have inked a satellite agreement for KA-band Internet and direct-to-home (DTH) pay-TV distribution across Brazil, aiming to deploy satellite TV by Q4 2015.

Under the agreement, Fonelight is offering satellite Internet through Media Networks' three Brazilian beams, covering the areas of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Espirito Santo, Goias, Minas Gerais and Distrito Federal.

In addition, both companies are working against the clock to launch Fonelight's DTH before the end of the year, a service targeting the south of the country. "The DTH launch will enable Fonelight to complete its telecom offering and launch double- and triple-play services," explained Mauro Paiva, CEO, Fonelight.

"We are happy to work together with Fonelight on developing ISAT and DTH, which we are sure will bring growth to the company," added Leandro Ganuszer, commercial director of Media Networks, Telefónica's business-to-business (B2B) unit. "This new project strengthens our position as the main wholesaler of ISAT and DTH services in Latin America."

Fonelight, a Minas Gerais-based telco, is currently offering digital phone services and high speed Internet, mostly targeting the corporate market, although it is looking to increase its presence within the residential segment.
