RTVE executives have revealed further details of its new Spanish-language international channel, TVE Star HD, which will target 400 million people across Latin America and the US Hispanic community.
The new network, which started a test phase in August, will gradually add more content to the eight-hour, free-to-air (FTA) programming loop currently broadcasting via Hispasat satellites. By the first half of 2016, the channel is expected to be fully programmed, becoming an encoded network solely for pay-TV operators, the same as TVE Internacional and Canal 24 Horas.
"The network will complement TVE Internacional and Canal 24 Horas. While TVE Internacional has a varied line-up, Star HD will be focused on entertainment and fiction for Americans," explained Maria José Bultó, director for strategies at TVE.
"We're looking to sell emotions, to share with the American audience everything we do in Spain with our shows and series," added Maria Jesús Pérez, vice-director for international sales, TVE.
Through the satellite feed, Star HD will air series like Isabel, Gran Reserva, The Department of Time and The Mysteries of Laura, as well as shows such as Españoles por el Mundo, Destino España and Comando Actualidad.
