Chinese regional broadcaster Wenzhou TV has upgraded its entire broadcast production system to high definition (HD) in anticipation of the launch of its HD news service this month.

Snell production infrastructure, conversion and switching technology have been installed by its regional partner Beijing Xingguang Sanitec Science & Technology Co.

A Snell Kahuna 6400 allows simultaneous support and conversion of SD, HD and 1080p across all inputs and outputs. Format and frame rate conversion of non-native media is handled by a KudosPro dual channel motion adaptive standards converter, while multi-format signal routing is delivered by a Pyxis router. Video and audio processing is enabled by Snell IQ Modular.

"We chose Snell infrastructure, conversion and switching solutions for the move into HD production because they cover all of Wenzhou TV's current needs and give plenty of room for future growth and expansion as its business develops," said Li Yannian, vice chief engineer, Beijing Xingguang Sanitec Science & Technology Co.

Wenzhou TV, which broadcasts to nine million people in Zhejiang Province in Eastern China, already has studio and OB equipment from Snell.

Stephen Wong, Snell SVP of sales, Asia Pacific, added: "Wenzhou TV is a long-standing and valued customer, and we're delighted that they have once again chosen Snell as their partner as they move into full HD production."
