AccuWeather makes key appointments

AccuWeather has added four leadership appointments to its executive team.

Vincent McDonald has been named chief international strategy officer; John Dokes has been named GM of the AccuWeather Network; Steven Smith has been named president of digital media; and Chris Patti has been named CTO.

"Over the past year, AccuWeather has achieved unprecedented growth, including an unmatched increase in digital audience, a ground-breaking new JV partnership in China, and launch of the highly successful 24/7 AccuWeather Network," said Joel Myers, founder, president and chairman of AccuWeather. "Through their leadership contributions, our expanded executive team will continue our successful global expansion and meet the significant demand for weather with Superior Accuracy, exclusively from AccuWeather."

As chief international strategy officer, McDonald will oversee AccuWeather's global expansion, building and expanding enterprise-wide partnerships in addition to guiding the company's international resources and presence to better serve its worldwide audience.

In the past year, AccuWeather has opened several new international offices, added global forecasting capabilities, and increased its number of forecasting languages to further localise and personalise weather communications.

AccuWeather also signed a joint venture with the Chinese Government's commercial weather arm to expand weather information and forecasting operations throughout China. McDonald will also continue in his leadership responsibilities as AccuWeather's chief human resources officer.

Dokes meanwhile will play a vital role in guiding the development and expansion of the AccuWeather Network as its GM, continuing to strengthen the only All Weather, All the Time national HD weather network through innovative programming and proprietary forecast offerings to serve its growing audience. Dokes will also continue in his role as AccuWeather's CMO to oversee all strategic branding and marketing for the company.

In his new position, Smith, president of digital media, will guide all components of digital media worldwide for AccuWeather, including technology advancements and innovation, revenue generation, advertising and partnerships. AccuWeather provides the No 1 weather mobile website in the United States and projected globally, and now serves over 12.5 billion data requests every day.

Appointed to CTO, Chris Patti will lead technology planning and infrastructure at AccuWeather, including strategic oversight of AccuWeather's expansive and proprietary global weather data, management of the cloud, APIs and Web serving, quickly and effectively scaling data and resources to meet demand.
