Freesat brings connected TV to global markets

UK subscription-free satellite provider Freesat is to offer its connected TV guide solution to terrestrial, cable and satellite TV operators and CE manufacturers outside of the UK.

Called Metaphor, the product represents a major expansion of Freesat's business and will first see use with Italian satellite operator Tivůsat for its new OTT service, tivůon!

Based on the Freetime connected TV service in the UK and driven by Freetime's evolving roadmap, Metaphor will enable operators to integrate broadband on-demand services into their existing linear broadcast offering. The cloud-based service management platform can be provided exactly as it is, or it can be tailored to fit specific operator requirements. Freesat claims that the easy customisation of the service will ensure that costs are competitive for potential partners.

Metaphor includes a companion application available across iOS and Android that can be integrated with the TV service, recognising the importance of companion apps.
