Telefonica has selected ARRIS Group’s VIP1113 set-top box to deliver IPTV services to its Movistar+ TV customers.

The Spanish TV service provider will offer HDTV, TV everywhere, on-demand and OTT services.

"We are pleased to work with Telefonica in Spain,” said Pablo Guaglianone, managing director of ARRIS in Spain. “Interactive TV has much relevance; our Consumer Entertainment Index shows that 77% of the connected people in Spain regularly binge (watch multiple episodes in one sitting) on television series and movies, and the typical duration of these binges has grown to more than three hours in the region.”

The ARRIS VIP1113 offers more than 50% more processing capacity than Movistar+’s existing IPTV set-tops, the company said, and provides 1GB of memory.

“We’re excited to have a strategic partnership with one of Europe’s largest operators,” said Steve McCaffery, SVP of sales for EMEA & APAC at ARRIS. We’re collaborating closely with Telefonica to get ahead of the strong growth in consumer demand for their content, their way. Our work to deploy the VIP1113 is paving the way for the IPTV revolution and positioning Telefonica as a leader in tomorrow’s IPTV services.”
