German media group Burda wants to create a German version of The Weather Channel in collaboration with the US company.

The focus will be on digital advertising opportunities, for example on smartphones and tablets, reports German business newspaper Handelsblatt.

Beta versions of the German website and apps (iOS/Android) are already available. The full service will launch by the end of the year.

The Weather Channel which, for example, provides the worldwide weather app for Apple’s iPhone, is owned by US broadcaster NBC Universal and financial investors Bain Capital and Blackstone.

The German version of The Weather Channel will be presented for the first time at dmexco, a German trade fair for digital marketing, which will open its doors on September 16, 2015 in Cologne.
