IBC 2015: SMIT deploys HbbTV CAM with ORS

Conditional access module manufacturer SMIT has extended its partnership with the Austrian Broadcasting Services (ORS) on the DVB-T2 platform, with a CAM integrated with HbbTV.

The HbbTV CAM has been launched for the simpliTV brand which is available for around 90% of the Austrian population and which offers up to 40 of the most popular Austrian and German TV channels are receivable from simpliTV, nine of which in HD quality. Channels ORF eins HD, ORF 2 HD, ATV HD, Servus TV HD and 3sat HD can be watched without fee after a free registration.

The CAM which is compatible with Irdeto's cardless content protection solution and HbbTV1.5, provides ID and entitlement status to applications which reside in connected TVs, by using CI Plus Specific Application Support (SAS). This allows users to enjoy live and online TV services as per their preference. The technology will also establish a basis for video on demand services and for improving user experience essentially.
