At IBC 2015, video technology provider Kaltura announced that Vodafone Spain has chosen Kaltura over-the-top (OTT) TV to power new video-on-demand (VOD) and catch-up services on its Vodafone TV service.
The new services aim to boost viewer engagement with Vodafone TV without having to roll out new hardware, as well as attracting new subscribers. The services enable subscribers to access a growing catalogue of on-demand and catch-up content from the set-top boxes (STB).
All the STBs run a dedicated Vodafone Spain-branded Web application which integrates with the catch-up metadata and subscriber management on the Kaltura backend, deployed in the cloud. For Vodafone Spain's fibre subscribers, the new services also feature rolling buffering, adaptive bit-rate and on-the-fly encryption to further enhance the experience.
"By launching new OTT services on Vodafone's STBs using our modular, unified backend, Vodafone Spain is opening up a world of on-demand content to existing and new subscribers. It will also allow them to build new revenue streams," commented Ron Yekutiel, Kaltura co-founder, chairman and CEO.
