When it comes to over-the-top (OTT), HBO NOW and Hulu are dominating the mobile app store charts by revenue.

According to research from App Annie, Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, YouTube, Amazon's Twitch and more rank among the top apps by downloads, but HBO NOW has the revenue piece sewn up, despite just launching in April.

In the US alone, revenue from the top ten video streaming apps more than tripled during the time period ending 31 July, driven by HBO NOW and Hulu. Overall, App Annie found that the video streaming app space has been experiencing high revenue growth in the US up by a factor of 3.2 on a year-over-year basis.

Meanwhile, YouTube and Twitch, the Amazon-owned video channel for broadcasting and watching video games, saw the largest year-over-year download growth to date. There are also some niche players that are gaining popularity, like sports league apps, which are particularly dominant for revenue. Apps from the MLB, NFL, UFC and NBA all cracked the top ten.
