Zee launches channel for Francophone Africa

Indian broadcaster Zee Entertainment has unveiled its latest channel for African audiences, Zee Magic, which will be available on the Canal+ Overseas satellite platform from 1 October.

ZEE MAGIC LOGOZee Magic will provide French-dubbed Indian films, TV series, food shows and reality programmes, among other general entertainment content aimed at French-speaking Africans. The acclaimed dramas Remariage, La Promesse and Lien Sacre will be joined by Bollywood blockbusters, the company says.

"Our corporate philosophy of 'Vasudhaiva kutumbakam' meaning 'The world is my family' is at the forefront of bringing authentic and entertaining content to our fast growing audiences across the globe," said Dr Subhash Chandra, chairman of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd and its parent company the Essel Group.

Harish Goyal, CEO Africas, Zee, added: "Zee Magic is a dedicated French offering from Zee for Francophone Africa. All content has undergone extensive research and we are very excited to be the first to offer Bollywood in French to our viewers."

The broadcaster launched the English-language entertainment channel Zee World for viewers in Sub Saharan Africa earlier this year. Its flagship channel Zee TV has been available on Multichoice's DStv pay-TV platform since 1996 and on Canal+ since 2006.
