In a worldwide context of growth towards a smarter and more online TV market, digital video distributor Fractal Media says Spain's over-the-top (OTT) industry is at the beginning of its path, and will explode within the coming months.

And the fuse will be lit by one new subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) player: Netflix. “In Spain we are about to see a growing content war after the arrival of the US platform,” explained Pablo Varela, spokesperson of Fractal Media.

Unsurprisingly, Spaniards are increasingly looking for specific content no matter what platform it is on, and no longer prioritise linear TV for the entertainment. “Holding back the audience is not easy any more”, added Varela. “The OTT world will require single platforms for content creators including distribution and broadcasting services in order to optimise the business management”.

“Producers and distributors are now able to reach the audience without limits of territory, licences and intermediaries via a single over-the-top platform,” concluded Fractal Media's representative.
