FremantleMedia acquires French scripted producer Kwai

Continuing its strategy to expand investment in regional creative talent for global networks, FremantleMedia has acquired a majority stake in French scripted producer Kwai.
Headed up by writer and producer Thomas Bourguignon, the Paris-based fiction company specialises in TV films and series such as Femmes de Loi, a popular French detective series that ran from 2000 to 2009. Kwai has recently delivered two TV films — Un Fils and Meurtre a Carcassonne — as well as pilot Le Zebre, all on air earlier this year. Upcoming series include Republican Gangsters for Canal+ and Godzilla for Arte.
For FremantleMedia the new deal comes hot on the heels of its similar acquisition of Fontaram and Wildside, Naked Entertainment, No Pictures Please and Skylark.
FremantleMedia France CEO Monica Galer will add Kwai to her responsibilities and as well as cementing local business by having more scripted prowess, the company will also look to produce series that appeal beyond the French borders. “Thomas Bourguignon is a brilliant writer and producer and we look forward to creating some really exciting scripted projects with him, in France and beyond,” she commented.
