Wowow inks content deals with SPT, CBS

Japanese pay-TV broadcaster Wowow has acquired exclusive broadcast rights in the country to The Player from Sony Pictures Television and CBS Studios' Zoo.

The Player, which premiered on NBC in the US on 24 September, centres on a former FBI agent as he becomes embroiled in a secret society's high stakes game of chance. The show, which stars Philip Winchester, Charity Wakefield, Damon Gupton and Wesley Snipes, was written by John Rogers and will air on Wowow in spring 2016. The series is produced by Kung Fu Monkey and Davis Entertainment in association with Sony Pictures Television.

Wowow will offer subscribers the 13-episode debut season of Zoo over four nights – starting at 10pm – from 30 December to 3 January. Based on the bestselling novel by James Patterson, Zoo is a thriller about a global wave of violent attacks on humans by animals. The CBS Television Studios-produced show, which aired in the US in summer 2015, stars James Wolk, Kristen Connolly, Billy Burke, Nonso Anozie and Nora Arnezeder. The series creators are Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.
