Drama series are the most popular genre of television production amongst local producers in the Arab world, according to the Arab Advisors Group.

Researchers studied 18 production houses across seven Middle Eastern countries namely Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria and the UAE and looked at 79 series produced in 2014 and the first six months of 2015.

"Arab Advisors Group analysis revealed that the majority of productions for 2014 and the first six months of 2015 are of the drama genre, constituting 50% and 51% of total productions respectively," said Dalia Haddad, senior research analyst, Arab Advisors Group.

The studios included in the report produced a total of 40 Arabic TV series in 2014 and 39 series in the first six months of 2015.
"Production houses based in Egypt and the UAE were the most productive, followed by Syrian production companies," added Haddad.
