The latest step of Wuaki.tv's European expansion is scheduled for next week, when the Spanish-based video-on-demand (VOD) platform will launch in Austria and Ireland, its sixth and seventh territories.
The Rakuten-owned service plans to operate in a total of ten countries by the end of the year. Although nothing has officially been unveiled, Portugal and Belgium may be among the next territories to welcome Wuaki.tv.
Users in Spain, the UK, France, Germany and Italy already have access to Wuaki.tv's VOD portfolio.
"After establishing ourselves in the bigger markets, we are currently focusing on European countries that may be smaller but are equally strategic because of the level of sophistication of VOD," said Jacinto Roca, CEO and founder of Wuaki.tv. "We have a product both in terms of content and technological development that is sure to have a very good reception in both markets."
Austrian and Irish users will also enjoy the recently announced offline functionality, enabling customers to download movies and series on iOS and Android devices so content can be viewed without an Internet connection.
