Al Jazeera's digital news platform AJ+ has passed the one billion video views mark a year after its inception in September 2014.

The social TV platform provides perspective on current events and prompts engagement with custom content for online networks including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram in addition to the AJ+ mobile app.

"It is a great achievement to reach such a milestone in such a short span of time since the launch," said Dima Khatib, managing director, AJ+. "It is a testament to the hard work of the AJ+ team and also the support that the Al Jazeera Media Network has given to cutting-edge digital platforms in delivering content. We believe that with such solid foundations, we will see AJ+ continue its rapid growth. Engagement and editorial go hand in hand with the ethos of AJ+ which finds new ways to tell human stories while understanding and addressing our audience's demands."

AJ+ has achieved 1,016,062,889 video views on Facebook, with 432,653,724 of these lasting for 30 seconds or longer, and 1,137,000 page likes. On YouTube, the digital news platform achieved 137,000 subscribers, over 28 million views, and over 44 million minutes watched.
