Broadcast system integrator 5280 Broadcast has hired Scott Barella as its CTO, leading platform expansion.

The company will rely on Barella to expand its presence in the over-the-top (OTT) video distribution market, targeting broadcast networks, cable MSOs, local TV stations and large event venues.

"The business of video content delivery is changing at a rapid pace, and no one is more prepared for this transition than Scott Barella," said Tony Roccanova, COO at 5280 Broadcast. "He has valuable insight into new types of IP video compression and distribution technology."

Over the past 30 years, Barella has built expertise in traditional broadcast system design, RF engineering, and product development as well as product marketing. He also has developed several hybrid digital video broadcast and cable (DVB-C)/OTT set tops with European middleware OEMs and US transcoding companies for Inspur Americas.

Barella will develop hardware and software enhancements for existing manufacturers in order to deliver custom OTT video delivery systems. The company also plans to provide ongoing post-deployment system level support to content distributors both domestically and internationally.

"There are huge changes in our industry and hybrid OTT services will force us all to think in completely new ways," Barella said. "In doing so, I believe 5280 Broadcast will essentially be redefining the role of the system integrator."

He added: "Working with Tony Roccanova and his staff at 5280 Broadcast is especially exciting because of this dynamic emerging technology."
