One of Spain's main drama institutions, the Teatro Real (royal theatre), has launched a smart TV app for Samsung screens to deliver online, video-on-demand (VOD) and live streaming events.

The app enables viewers to access the Teatro Real's online audiovisual site, Palco Digital, with operas and theatre spectacles filmed with high quality audio and video, available on-demand. The app will also give access to live content and will enable viewers to look up extra information about the content they're watching, including checking the libretto on their mobile devices.

Working on a subscription basis, users have unlimited access for 46 a semester or 79 for the whole season. Single VOD content is available for 5 and live events cost 10.

Users have to register at Palco Digital as well as on their Samsung smart TVs, and then download the app.

The premiering content is the Roberto Devereux opera, written by Gaetano Donizetti, which has been filmed in 4K with Samsung's collaboration. The first live broadcasting on Palco Digital was free for Samsung smart TV users.
