The Russian broadcaster CTC Media will close its thematic channel Peretz and replace it with a new one named Che on November 12.
According to Kommersant, Che will, like its predecessor, target a mostly male audience but at the same time be family friendly, offering “more intelligent transmissions”.
It adds that Roskomanadzor has confirmed that a request to have the licence for Peretz registered under the name Che has received approval. However, representatives of both Peretz and CTC Media have refused to comment.
Peretz was launched in 2011 on a frequency that CTC Media had acquired from MTG, its largest shareholder, three years earlier. This had previously been used to transmit a channel named DTV.
Peretz has recently both lost audience share and revenues.
