Sony's XDCAM HD cameras will be part of Atresmedia's HD update for its electronic news gathering (ENG) system.

The Atresmedia project, which focus on technological improvement for news coverage and news show production, will mean the acquisition of over 100 Sony cameras from XDCAM range, including models PXW-X320, PXW-X200 and PXW-X180.

Sony's cameras support the filming format XDCAM HD @ 50Mbps, established as standard to exchange HD files between broadcasters and supported by the main news' production sub-systems. In addition, the cameras are compatible with XAVC Long Gop technology, which provides higher quality with less need of broadband.

The PXW-X320 is one of Sony's latest models, presented last April at NAB. The camera has three sensors CMOS Exmor 1/2" and full HD resolution. A wireless transmitter enables live streaming and HD file transfer through FTP on Wi-Fi and 4G networks.

The PXW-X200 is a similar device but lighter, designed as a hand camera. It includes a 17x HD optic with precise and independent adjustment for focal, zoom and iris settings. Optic features are improved in PXW-X180 and a 25x HD lens with 26mm wide angle.

It's not the first time Atresmedia has chosen Sony as an HD provider, as last year the media group used the company to renew its studio production equipment.
