ICO Prepares for Satellite Launch

ICO Global Communications said it is a step closer to launching its North American geosynchronous satellite, ICO G1, which will support the delivery of interactive mobile video, navigation and emergency assistance services via a hybrid satellite/terrestrial platform.

ICO said it has procured launch and in-orbit insurance coverage for the satellite. Space Systems/Loral has completed testing of ICO G1 and the spacecraft is being finalized in preparation for shipment to Cape Canaveral, Fla., next week, the company added.

ICO's launch provider, Lockheed Martin Commercial Launch Services, has provided a range lift-off date of April 14.

ICO Global Communications is developing an advanced next-generation hybrid media system, combining both satellite and terrestrial communications capabilities. ICO has branded its mobile interactive media service as ICO mim.
