A VSAT Milestone for Hughes

Hughes Network Systems announced Monday that it has shipped more than 1.5 million broadband satellite VSAT terminals worldwide.

More than 400,000 units shipped are compliant with DVB-S2/IPoS, a broadband satellite standard approved by TIA, ETSI and ITU that yields higher throughputs and more efficient bandwidth utilization, the company said.

It has been 20 years since Hughes conceived and delivered the first VSATs. The company said its VSAT networks provide rapid transmission of data, voice, video and multimedia to virtually an unlimited number of sites across continent-wide areas covered by geostationary satellites.
