1.2 Gigabytes in Satellite Broadband Speed

Could it be the future of satellite broadband communications?

Last weekend, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries launched the WINDS satellite that promises to deliver fast internet access. According to The Associated Press, the satellite could offer speeds of up to 1.2 gigabytes per second to consumers with small dishes.

The platform would initially focus on the Asia-Pacific region close to Japan, said JAXA.
