Euro glory may save Grant

Last chance for under-fire coach

Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka believes that winning the UEFA Champions League could be the only way Avram Grant will keep his job.

The Blues boss has come under increasing pressure in recent weeks following a dismal display in the Carling Cup final against Tottenham and a shock FA Cup quarter-final exit at the hands of Championship side Barnsley.

He has helped guide the Blues safely through to the last eight in Europe though and their French striker Anelka admits that success in that competition could still ensure that Grant avoids the axe this summer.

"I think we have to win that," he said.

"We know there will be people after the manager, but as a player you know when you haven't played well and we haven't done recently.

"The criticism should be aimed at the players.

"We have spoken about the Champions League and we will try to do our best to win it.

"We have big players who have the quality to do it."
