DIRECTV 11 to Go Online this Fall
DIRECTV said Thursday that the company is excited about the successful launch of its latest satellite, a bird that will boost company efforts to deliver up to 150 national high-def services and expand local HD channels to more than 100 markets.
DIRECTV 11 lifted off from the Pacific Ocean-based Sea Launch platform late Wednesday. The 10th owned and operated satellite in the DIRECTV fleet will be maneuvered into a circular orbit at 99.2 degrees when tests are completed, the company said.
The spacecraft is expected to begin operations in early September.
DIRECTV said it will launch another satellite in 2009 that will enable its platform to offer customers up to 200 national HD channels.
