Torres 'amazed' by derby
Match-winning striker startled by Anfield atmosphere
Liverpool striker Fernando Torres admits he was 'amazed' by his first Merseyside derby.
The Spanish forward marked the occasion in trademark style with Liverpool's solitary goal in a 1-0 win over their local rivals at Anfield on Sunday.
Torres opened the scoring in the seventh minute of the 207th battle on the banks of the Mersey to secure the points for Liverpool and place the Reds in box seat for the battle for fourth place in the Premier League.
And match-winner Torres, who was injured for Liverpool's 2-1 win over Everton at Goodison Park in October, admits he was astonished by the atmosphere.
"The derby was amazing. It is always different for the fans. It is an important week and you feel this is a special game," Torres said.
"The victory was most important and Everton are further [behind] than before."
Torres, who has now scored 21 goals in the league, also believes the victory over the Toffees made up for last weekend's disappointing 3-0 defeat at Manchester United.
"When you have a bad result you need a big game with a good result and now we have confidence again," he concluded.
