XM On Board with Blackberry
A satellite radio company has jumped on the mobile content bandwagon that's making the rounds at this week's CTIA Wireless 2008 conference in Las Vegas.
On Tuesday, QuickPlay Media, a provider of mobile TV and video solutions, said XM Radio Mobile has selected its technology as a media management platform to make the satellite radio service universally available on select BlackBerry smartphones from Research In Motion. The service enables customers to get 20 channels of programming for $7.99 a month with an option for a complimentary 24-hour trial, the companies said.
Channels that are part of the Blackberry/XM selection include 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s decade streams, 20on20 (top 20 hits), Ethel (new alternative rock), The City (hip-hop/R&B hits), XMU (indie rock), Watercolors (easy jazz) and Highway 16 (new country hits), the companies said.
