Pole on Pole in Bahrain

Polish driver clocks fastest time in final qualifying in Bahrain.

BMW Sauber's Polish driver Robert Kubica will start Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix from pole position after clocking the fastest time in qualifying.

Ferrari's Felipe Massa will start from second, with Great Britain's Lewis Hamilton firing his McLaren around the track in the third fastest time.

Kubica secured the first pole position of his Formula One career as he pipped Brazilian Massa with a time of one minute 33.096 seconds.

Championship leader Hamtilon shares the second row with world champion Kimi Raikkonen in the other Ferrari.

The result means that neither a Ferrari nor McLaren will be on pole position for the first time in a Grand Prix since China in October 2006.

Heikki Kovalainen will start in fifth place in the second McLaren, while the second BMW Sauber of Nick Heidfeld is alongside him in sixth.

Jarno Trulli follows in his Toyota then the Williams of Nico Rosberg, while Britain's Jenson Button was a super ninth in his Honda as he booked a top-ten start for the first time this season.

Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso could only finish 10th for Renault, with Button's Honda team-mate Rubens Barrichello starting from 12th and Timo Glock 13th.

Takuma Sato will start at the back of the grid in his Super Aguri after a minor accident saw him run wide at the final turn and clip the tyre barrier at the end of the pit lane.

Mis-firing Scot David Coulthard will start in a lowly 17th place.
