(1964) The first outing for one of madcap genius Peter Sellers' most celebrated roles, Inspector Clouseau. The first outing for one of madcap genius Peter Sellers' most celebrated roles, Inspector Clouseau. Here, cinema's most ineffective detective bumbles along the trail of a mysterious jewel thief, looking everywhere but the right place
The Pink Panther This is the first and, along with its same-year 'sequel' A Shot in the Dark, the best of the eight Panther movies. The series obscured Edwards' later career as writer, producer, director and master of genres beyond comedy and musical, although in fact most of the subsequent work is quite wonderful.

Western starring Van Johnson and Richard Boone, and directed by Rudolph Maté
Siege At Red River Like a lot of great directors, Rudolph Maté lensed films before he started directing them. As a five-time Oscar nominated DP, his credits included such notable pictures as Gilda, The Pride Of The Yankees, Sahara and The Flame Of New Orleans. First sitting in the director's chair in 1947, the Polish-born Maté would carve out an idiosyncratic filmography encompassing B-movie sci-fi (When Worlds Collide), classy film noir (D.O.A.) and ancient world epics (The 300 Spartans, The Barbarians).

(2006) In Guillermo Del Toro's Oscar-winning fairytale for adults, fascism struggles to trample an innocent's imagination. In Guillermo Del Toro's Oscar-winning fairytale for adults, fascism struggles to trample an innocent's imagination
In the imagination of filmmakers, there is something about the horrors of the Spanish Civil War and its immediate aftermath that lends itself to the innocent, often fanciful perspective of a child. So Victor Erice's The Spirit Of The Beehive (1973) presented an idyllic Spanish postwar countryside through the eyes of a girl obsessed with James Whale's Frankenstein, and Guillermo Del Toro's The Devil's Backbone (2001) seamlessly merged the inexorable advance of fascism with a ghost story unfolding in a rural school for boys.
(2000) Jean Reno is a tough city cop assigned to investigate a brutal murder at a college in the Alps. Two very different detectives unite to solve a gruesome murder near a university campus. An exciting French thriller. Jean Reno and Vincent Cassel star
Crimson Rivers It's difficult to fault The Crimson Rivers as a mystery. Even after it's finished, you'll still have no idea what the hell it's supposed to be about...

One Nite In Mongkok Telling fresh crime stories is no mean feat in these cynical, media saturated times, especially ones set in the photogenic neon chaos of Hong Kong. Nevertheless, writer-director Tung-Shing Yee (aka Derek Yee, Full Throttle, Lost In Time) has managed to do something novel in One Nite In Mongkok, an intense, slow-burning crime thriller about jaded cops and conflicted killers.
