The Dark Corner
(1946) Quality film noir from Henry Hathaway, cunningly plotted and ominously atmospheric.Lucille Ball stars in this quality film noir. Cunningly plotted and ominously atmospheric, a down-at-heel private eye finds himself accused of a murder he didn't commit
Long before she found fame as the dizzy wannabe starlet in sitcom 'I Love Lucy', Lucille Ball had a reputation for brightening up even the dullest studio-made drama. The Dark Corner catches her just before she entered the big league and the result is a highly accomplished thriller, undeservedly eclipsed by her later achievements.
(1947) Robert Mitchum plays Jeb Rand, a man haunted by childhood memories which lead him into a bitter feud with his adoptive family, the Callums.
When Eight Bells Toll
(1971) Anthony Hopkins stars in Etienne Perier's thriller as a tough navy secret service agent called in to track down gold bullion smugglers. This fun espionage adventure zips along at a rate of knots and keeps you guessing with an involving and twisting plot. In other words, everything you'd expect from an Alistair MacLean story. Ruthless modern-day pirates have been stealing gold bullion from ships sailing the Irish Sea. Hopkins, a bright young thing of the Navy's secret service, is sent to find out who's behind the crime. His investigations take him to the windswept Scottish Highlands where, together with sidekick Redgrave, he upsets the unhelpful locals, noses around slippery tycoon Hawkins, and plays footsy with the magnate's wife, Delon.

Comedy starring Adam Sandler, Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen and Carl Weathers and directed by Dennis Dugan
Love him or loathe him, Adam Sandler has managed to turn his comedic shtick into box-office gold over the years. Those familiar with Sandler's movies will know what to expect here: a goofy underachiever with an extremely short fuse exploits a hidden talent; ruffles a few feathers with his unorthodox ways then gets the girl and saving the day. Simple as it is, it's a winning formula that Sandler pulls off with great ease in Happy Gilmore.
(2000) Samuel L Jackson plays the eponymous hero in John Singleton's tough thriller.Update of the original 70s blaxploitation flick. An Armani-clad Samuel L Jackson stars, while Richard Roundtree appears as the uncle - the first John Shaft
Shaft 2000 The fact that blaxploitation movies were very much a product of a certain time and place hasn't stopped people revisiting them endlessly. Quentin Tarantino has based a large part of his career on doing just that.
The Crow: Wicked prayer
(2005) A hell-bound gang leader murders a young man who returns as the avenging Crow. Horror sequel starring Edward Furlong and David 'Angel' Boreanaz.A hell-bound gang leader murders a young man who returns as the avenging Crow. Horror sequel starring Edward Furlong and David 'Angel' Boreanaz
There've been so many shocking Crow spin-offs, it's easy to forget the comic-book character has its origins in very real tragedy. His girlfriend killed in a drunk-driving accident, James O'Barr poured his rage and sorrow into the story of Eric Draven, a dead rock star returned to life to avenge his death. The graphic novel that emerged from this very public display of grief - which O'Barr dedicated to Joy Division's Ian Curtis - remains a powerful example of the form. Alas, the same cannot be said for the films it inspired.
