Worldspace Wins German OK

In a key win for the global satellite radio player, Worldspace said it received approval from German regulators to use spectrum for a terrestrial repeater network that will supplement its satellite-delivered audio service targeted at vehicles.

The regulatory OK makes Germany the third European nation to approve Worldspace's plans. Italy and Switzerland have already signed off on the company's efforts.

The decision is key for Worldspace, given that Germany has the largest automobile market in Western Europe, with an average of 3.4 million cars sold every year during the past 16 years. Germany also is most populous nation in Western Europe with more than 82 million people.
