Rio - Trophies are paramount

United centre-back ready for defining fixtures

Rio Ferdinand has admitted it is 'paramount' that Manchester United lift silverware this season.

United face two colossal fixtures in the space of four days that are likely to define their 2007/08 campaign.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side travel to Chelsea on Saturday, looking to effectively seal the Premier League title, before hosting Barcelona in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final encounter next Tuesday.

And Ferdinand has spoken of the magnitude of the forthcoming clashes, rallying his team-mates to seal their season with success.

"It's obvious we want to win at Chelsea," he told the Daily Star. "Success as a team is paramount.

"If we win, we'll get the plaudits we deserve. If we don't, we'll get the criticism we probably deserve.

"Winning the league and the Champions League is what I want to round off the season."
