Latens linking with Echostar?

Conditional access specialists Latens April 29 announced it had signed up Swiss cable utility ESR to its software-based system. But there appears to be much more in the offing for Latens.
ESR is a cable company operating in the Sion region of Switzerland, which will now use Latens CAS to protect its DVB-C cable system currently transitioning from analogue to digital. Latens task is to protect ESR’s SD and HD transmissions as well as VOD and network PVR services.

Not to minimise the Swiss contract, the more important news is that Latens has been holding extensive talks with satellite DTH giant Echostar. The plan seems to be for Latens to partner with Echostar on its new IPTV service where telcos get a full programming and content bundle delivered by Echostar (under the ViP-TV label) to IPTV operators. Security will be provided by Latens ECOsystem as part of the package. Rapid TV News understands that the initial discussions could include up to 40 US-based telcos taking the Latens system.
