BSkyB Gains Customers for DVR, HD Services

British Sky Broadcasting, the U.K./Irish satellite TV platform controlled by News Corp., netted 55,000 customers during its fiscal third quarter that ended March 31, taking its subscriber total to 8.88 million.

As for individual product lines, BSkyB's Sky-Plus DVR service netted 262,000 customers during the quarter, and 3.39 million were utilizing the digital recorder product as of the end of March. Also, Sky reported 465,000 customers for its HD service, thanks to 43,000 net additions for the high-def offering during the quarter.

The company's broadband platform gained 229,000 customers during the three-month period, for a total of 1.4 million. Its telephony product netted 180,000 new users, for a final tally of 1.095 million.

BSkyB said fiscal third quarter revenue increased 10 percent to 3.706 million pounds ($7.35 million U.S.) when compared to the same period last year.
