3D-HD: mass market by 2011
French soccer fans should be able to see some of their favourite games live next season in 3D-HD.
British technology mag TVB Europe reports that the plan is for Orange broadband to deliver high-def 3D images to its subscribers. Philippe Delbary told Adrian Pennington that a period of experimentation might be needed, which might itself take six to 12 months to master.
However, he predicted that 3D HD could become mass market by 2011, helped by an increasing supply of 3D movies flowing from the Hollywood studios.
The BBC in the UK has already experimented with live 3D sports transmission (of the Calcutta Cup rugby match earlier this year).
