Serbian magnate to launch TV Pink in Croatia
After several failed attempts, the Serbian media magnate Zeljko Mitrovic has finally succeeded in getting a foothold in the Croatian media market for his Pink Media Group.
Mitrovic has purchased the Croatian local channel Net for €2.5 million, which will serve as the launch pad for a new Croatian TV network called Pink Hrvatska, due to launch by the end of the year.
Net is currently the most popular local TV station in Croatia and the fifth in TV audience ratings. Earlier this week, Croatia’s Council for Electronic Media extended Net’s licence for an additional 12 years.
The station’s concession area is for the city of Bjelovar and Northern Croatia. Mitrovic is also negotiating the acquisition of up to nine smaller local TV channels across Croatia, with the goal of providing the widest possible coverage for Pink Hrvatska. There also plans to broadcast the new TV channel in digital DVB technology.
The Pink Media Group owns a network of TV and radio channels in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, which are available on terrestrial, digital satellite and cable.
