Eutelsat capacity for Nova HD
Multichoice Hellas, which operates the Nova platform over Greece and Cyprus, has taken extra capacity from Eutelsat. Nova will be adding HDTV channels.
Nova has renewed its overall capacity until 2020 from Eutelsat’s Hot bird spot, and in so doing has increased from four to five the number of transponders in use. Transponder five kicks in at the end of this year for HDTV and general expansion. The capacity was booked through Syned, the Greek satellite services provider.
Nova was launched in 1999 and now has more than 350,000 subscribers.
However, the local market is readying for some tough competition. Hellas-Sat has already applied for a licence to start a DTH service, while Nova itself has just been sold for $430m to a consortium with GO plc and Emirates International Telecoms Malta as partners.
