What's Next for DISH/TiVo Case?

During the next few weeks, eyes could be focused on DISH Network and TiVo as the companies move towards the next step in their ongoing litigation.

In April, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C., denied EchoStar's request for a rehearing of the long-running patent infringement case involving TiVo. Once that news surfaced, the satellite TV company said it would to take the matter to the Supreme Court.

According to a Friedman Billings Ramsey analyst, the companies will be at a status conference later in the month in U.S. District Court in Texas. That looming conference may "coax the parties to settle" their differences, stated the firm's note released Thursday.

For quite some time, the companies have been tangled in litigation over alleged violations of TiVo's DVR patents by DISH Network's own DVR technology.
