Global DTH Poised to Reach 133 Million by 2010

Given that there are about 60 DTH platforms across the globe, including fledgling services in developing regions, the planet's dish-based services are expected to keep growing in the coming years.

Recently released research from San Jose-based Global Industry Analysts stated that satellite TV subscribers worldwide are projected to reach more than 133 million in 2010. The DTH market globally is projected to grow at a compounded annual rate of more than 9.6 percent, the firm said.

Satellite TV subscribers in Europe account for nearly 50 percent of subscribers globally, the research company said. However, as the North American and West European markets mature, a lot of DTH growth is poised for developing markets such as the Asia-Pacific region and East European countries.

In fact, Asia-Pacific represents the fastest growing market for satellite TV services, registering a potential growth rate of nearly 23 percent, Global Industry Analysts said.
