Nat Geo wants a high-def India

As if in response to the news earlier in the week that India’s Dish TV plans high-definition services later in the year, National Geographic Channel (NGC) laid out its plan for four HD channels in India.
The broadcaster is one of the international companies at the forefront of the move to HD, typically being one of the first broadcasters to offer high-definition content as platforms launch services. Even though there are as yet no HD services in India, NGC has already applied to the government for permission to downlink four HD channels.

In India, NGC wants to launch its Adventure, Wild and Music high-def services, as well as its main Nat Geo channel. All of the channels are already launched elsewhere in Asia and Nat Geo is talking with Indian carriage providers, including cable operators as well as DTH satellite platforms.
