Liberty Global wants E-Europe cable
Liberty Media’s CEO Mike Fries (pictured, left) said that the cable operator is looking to expand into Central and Eastern Europe, probably as soon as this year. He added that he expects the current credit crunch as far as raising cash to ease later this year.
Mr Fries was speaking at the Reuters Global Technology Media & Telecoms Summit, and said that within the next six to 12 months he expected “things will start to move” for the business. Fries is particularly keen on Poland, and other high-growth cable markets where it currently operates but has been held back by the problems in the world’s capital markets.
"It's all about Europe. Central and Eastern Europe would be a starting point for us, because these are high-growth markets," Fries said. "Poland for us grows 30% EBITDA per quarter. We'd love to own more [in] Poland."
