HDTV growth slackens at Premiere

German pay-TV operator Premiere achieved only marginal growth to its HDTV figures in the first quarter of 2008 compared with the previous quarter.

While 20,000 new subscribers were added in the last three months of 2007, between 1 January and 31 March only 10,000 new customers signed up for the service. Altogether, 120,000 subscribers have opted for the film, series and sports channel Premiere HD and documentary channel Discovery HD, as Premiere announced in Munich.

The channels are available via cable, satellite and ADSL. Premiere currently has more than 3.62 million subscribers, which it hopes to raise to 3.8 million by year-end.
